Working with Michelle

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I received my Master’s in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas (2015)  and my Bachelor’s in Arts degrees in Psychology and Women’s Studies from the University of Kansas (2002).  I’ve completed training in EMDR therapy and perinatal mental health.

Becoming a counselor has been a journey of congruence for me. I have always been curious about how the mind works and strived to understand and help others. As a counselor, I am committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where solutions and positive changes can be made.  I believe the foundation to a therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist is one based on trust, encouragement, and mutual respect.  Through encouragement, I can provide clients with tools to make changes to unwanted behaviors and thinking patterns, at each individual client’s pace.  I also attempt to understand each client by looking into early childhood experiences, family dynamics, and individual lifestyles.  The overall goal of therapy is not to change who you are, yet to increase emotional well-being.

I provide services focused on anxiety, depression, sexual trauma, relationship concerns, infertility, loss and grief, pregnancy, postpartum conditions, parenting, and the stressors of life. Maternal mental health and parenting at any stage of life are areas of speciality for me. I’ve worked in a variety of settings including outpatient, partial hospitalization, residential group home, agency, and private practice.

Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with my husband and kids, playing with my pug and goldendoodle, hanging out with friends, and exploring.

I believe in the process of counseling and that it takes courage and strength to face your challenges, whatever those may be.
